Biography

Ellen is a Solicitor in the Employment team, with experience in advising clients on a wide range of employment law and UK immigration law matters. Ellen qualified as a Solicitor in 2022, after joining the Team in 2017.

Ellen has experience in both contentious and non-contentious employment law matters. Ellen provides advice and HR support to clients, drafts employment documentation such as company policies and contracts of employment, and frequently advises on settlement agreements. Ellen also advises on bringing and defending claims in the Employment Tribunal, including claims for unfair dismissal, discrimination and whistleblowing.

In the Immigration sector, Ellen advises on a wide range of UK immigration matters, including migrant workers’ right to work in the UK, EEA Nationals’ status in the UK, sponsor licence applications and obligations, and visa and British citizenship applications. Ellen has delivered a number of bespoke training sessions to clients, on topics such as the EU Settlement Scheme and Right to Work issues, and has conducted immigration audits for clients in order to ensure their compliance with Right to Work legislation and obligations as Home Office-licenced sponsors.

Ellen is also qualified through CILEx as a Chartered Legal Executive.

Relevant experience

  • Facilities sector company: Acting for the client in defending several claims brought in the Employment Tribunal, including a claim involving whistleblowing detriment and complex discrimination allegations. Advising the client on general day-to-day employment issues that arise, including issues relating to sickness, performance, and disciplinary matters.  
  • Various clients: Advising businesses in developing clear and compliant employment contracts and HR policies. 
  • Nationwide care provider: Conducting a comprehensive Immigration Audit to evaluate compliance with sponsor obligations, for an organisation with a large number of sponsored workers. 
  • Private Individual: Advising on a complex ‘Parent of a Child’ visa application where the client’s circumstances fell outside the strict standard requirements for this route. The application was ultimately successful. 
  • Various clients: Advising on preparing and submitting Home Office Sponsor Licence applications, and supporting with organisations’ obligations once the licence has been granted.
