Ashfords act on sale of building to Plymouth City Council to support homeless families

Ashfords is pleased to have acted on the recently completed sale of the Royal Building to Plymouth City Council for a long-standing client, which will ultimately be used as temporary accommodation to homeless families.

The building, which currently consists of student apartments each with common living areas, will now be converted into 30, one, two and three bedroom flats. These flats will be used as temporary accommodation for homeless families, avoiding the need to use B&B accommodation and assisting with the city’s homelessness crisis.

John Saville, legal director, led on the transaction with input from Sophie Michaelides, senior associate. Both John and Sophie, both based in Ashfords’ Plymouth office, commented: “We are really pleased to have represented our long-standing client in the sale of the Royal Building. There is a real need for housing in the city and this is an important step towards supporting some of Plymouth’s most vulnerable families.”
