UK law firm Ashfords has chosen to collaborate with The College of Legal Practice to ensure that their trainees get the best possible preparation for the SQE exams. Alongside SQE training, the firm’s trainees will study other skills and foundation law modules to give their future practitioners a strong foundation in client engagement and practice to start their legal careers.

The virtual preparation training offered by The College of Legal Practice closely aligns with Ashford’s values, offering high level personalised support for every individual. Ashfords particularly welcomed the College’s collaborative approach in being able to tailor their trainee programme to their needs and the close communication between the two organisations. In June, the College team have been delivering presentations to Ashfords’ potential future trainees as part of their vacation scheme activities, highlighting the SQE to them at this early stage before they commence their study in autumn 2025.

As part of this new partnership, once the trainees have started their study, the College will advise Ashford’s early careers teams on the progress of each one of their trainees in the preparation courses and ensure that they are fully ready to take the SQE assessments.

Trainee solicitors at Ashfords experience four areas of law during their training contract and are fully immersed in the life of a full-service law firm. They work alongside experienced lawyers who are leaders in their field, helping them to develop their technical skills and broaden their commercial awareness.

Dr Giles Proctor, CEO of the College, said “We are delighted to be partnering with Ashfords, who are looking at their training holistically and are focusing on giving their future lawyers the best possible start to their legal careers. We are enjoying the close partnership that we have already developed which highlights team’s clear focus on supporting their trainees through these challenging exams.”

Toby Tompkins, Talent Attraction Manager at Ashfords, commented: “We are looking forward to collaborating with the College of Legal Practice in order to provide our trainees with the very best preparation for their SQE exams. From our conversations with Giles and the team, we have been impressed with the level of personalised support and training offered to students, which will undoubtedly ensure each of our future lawyers have the best chance of succeeding in their exams and beyond.”
