Biography

Avika is a paralegal in the property disputes team, who specialises in housing disrepair, focusing on pre-action and court proceedings.

As a property disputes paralegal at Ashfords LLP, Avika focuses on local council disrepair issues and handles all aspects of case management. Her work ranges from drafting key correspondence and disclosure documents to preparing settlement agreements, Tomlin orders, and Calderbank offers.

Avika liaises with and instructs experts, prepares liability and quantum assessments (including breaches), and drafts essential legal documents such as witness statements and counter-schedules of loss. She manages both small and fast track claims, preparing directions and handling statements of costs for litigated cases, as well as bill of costs and points of dispute. Avika consistently aims to provide clear advice and efficient case resolutions.

Avika studied Law and Business (LLB) at the University of Exeter. During her third year, she completed a one-year in-house legal placement with a leading heating products manufacturer. There, she created a legal database on Brexit laws, differentiating between EU directives and new UK regulations. This database continues to help engineers worldwide to follow set regulations without taking much of their time, when creating their world leading appliances. She worked closely with engineers to ensure compliance with Brexit regulations, drafted various contracts, and handled employment law, regulation, arbitration, negotiation, and litigation tasks.

Before joining Ashfords, Avika took part in another placement and briefly volunteered at an award-winning community law clinic. During both experiences she conducted client interviews, provided tailored legal advice, and handled cases related to criminal, family, probate, employment, contracts, and civil procedures. Avika showed effective client handling skills, maintaining professionalism and empathy. She also conducted legal research, liaised with legal professionals, and prepared accurate and compliant documentation.

Prior to joining Ashfords, Avika gained experience at a regional law firm in the Midlands, where she worked across multiple legal sectors; corporate, commercial property, residential property and employment Law. Avika supported corporate transactions by drafting independent legal advice documents, shareholder agreements and personal guarantees. In commercial and residential property, Avika helped client’s navigate commercial property matters, including lease exits and contract drafting. In employment law, she focused on unfair dismissal and breach of contract claims and provided advice on workplace disputes, often drafting defences and settlement agreements.
