Decarbonising Transport

We help organisations reduce transport-related emissions, whether those emissions arise from their own activities or from vehicles and vessels used by the public, tenants, employees or customers.

Both public and private sector organisations are increasingly focussed on decarbonising transport as a means of achieving Net Zero, reducing the scope 2 and 3 emissions of customers, mitigating exposure to the UK Emissions Trading Scheme and improving air quality.

We advise on the commercial arrangements relating to the funding, installation management and operation of projects, including:

• the electrification of UK road transport, such as the installation of electric vehicle and charging points and the procurement of e-bike and e-scooter projects;

• the electrification of marine vessels operating in UK waters, such as cold ironing and shore-side power projects;

• the adoption and use of alternative fuels including fuel bunkering infrastructure; and

• the supply of low carbon power and fuel supply, such as on-site energy-as-a-service, private wire and virtual Power Purchase Agreements.

We also support clients with:

• the procurement of low carbon plant, vehicles and haulage services;

• the implementation of ANPR to help enforce clean air zones;

• securing the required land rights, highways licences, traffic management orders, and planning permissions required for a project;

• securing subsidies and incentives, such as the Green Gas Support Scheme and the Renewable Fuel Transport Order.

Our experience

 Since 2024 we have advised over 10 local authorities on EV charger concession projects, involving the deployment of approximately 6,000 EV chargers of varying types, funded by private sector investment and supported by over £18.7m in grant funding, comprising of ORCS, LEVI and Local Authority funds.
